Alexi was made during the depths of the pandemic when I had been spending every waking hour with my dog. I began to analyze his gait, his gaze, his whimpers. I hoped to capture the longing look he seems to always have, eternally giving sad adorable eyes in hope of a treat. Alexi is also a result of falling into a doomscroll/deep internet dive after reading a news story about the blue dogs of Chernobyl. I wanted to make a replication of what my dog would maybe look like with a touch of Chernobyl dusted in after years of evolution. The piece was displayed digitally with Eve Leibe Gallery in a show titled Cave Canem.
